Sweater Weather!

To all my knitting friends,
wouldn't this be fun to knit?
I snapped a picture of this billboard
at the Paris airport
when I was there last summer.

Do you recognize the model?
Hint:  Les Mis

It's a bit cooler and rainy
this morning in Tennessee.
Perfect day to knit!

My BIG Score at Tuesday Morning!

Do you have a "Tuesday Morning" in your area?
They are a closeout retailer,
specializing in home decor,
but they carry lots of other items too.
The trick is to visit them regularly,
because their inventory changes
often and fast.
Just because you see something there
on one visit,
doesn't mean you'll see it next time you go.

If you are a knitter, you know what kind
of treasures you can find there.

I scored really big this week!!!
I am always on the lookout for
novelty yarns to add to my
I must have hit it just right
because look what I found!
I bought all they had...
26 balls in seven different colors
of Trendsetter Yarns, JOY.
This color way is "Flower Garden."
Isn't that fitting?
It's a fun yarn with little flags,
which can add wonderful textural interest
to a knitting project.

And look at the savings!

I also picked up 3 colors of a bamboo ribbon with some metallic.
These are the kind of sales that make my heart sing!

Be sure to visit buttermilk cottage.com
and see what I do with these!

My Boutique Yarn FUSION

I hate to brag,
but are these not gorgeous???
I love the process of making this
boutique, art yarn which I call
It is a combination of a dozen or more
different yarns
which has been cut and hand tied together.
When knitted it creates a unique
color way and texture.

I have FUSION available in
200 yard hanks, in a variety of
different color ways
for the knitter, crocheter, weaver
or fiber artist.

Or, you can purchase FUSION kits with
all the yarn needed
and pattern
to knit a slouchy hat or...

...cowl.

It's not too early to start some of
those holiday gift projects!
Happy knitting!

New in My Shop - Knitter's Tools!

If you haven't visited my shop lately,
you haven't seen some of the handy
Knitting Tools I have recently added!

One of my all time favorites is the
a nifty little counter to help you
keep track of rows, stitches, repeats, etc
when knitting.
I actually have 2 or 3 of these
so I can always put my hands on one.

All knitters know what a hassle
a slippery yarn can be when knitting it.
"Yarn Bras" are the perfect tool to keep
them upright and perky!

I have even selected the ones I consider
absolute "essentials" for any knitting bag
and have them available in a
pretty chevron Accessory Bag.
Wouldn't this make a great gift
for any beginner knitter?

Happy Weekend!
You'll find me on the porch knitting!

On My Needles Today...Not...or The Coat is Finished!

It's been a bit of a journey,
but my knitted coat is finished!
I love the color way and am calling it
"Abalone."
It has subtle shades of
aqua, sea foam and lavender.

The sleeves, which should be
a simple component,
gave me some challenges.
I started with the stockinette stitch
you see above,
but decided I did not really like the look.
I then changed to the
"Mistake Rib"
pattern I used on the opening
and sides.
After knitting almost half a sleeve
I decided I didn't really like the
way it was looking either.
So, I changed to a larger needle and
worked them in stockinette stitch (again).

I found the perfect buttons at a lovely yarn shop in
Blowing Rock, NC
during a recent road trip with my
knitting buddies, called

There are slits at the bottom of both sides.

I never finish a project like this without thinking,
"If I ever knit another one of these I will..."
There are some slight changes
I would probably make,
but over all, I'm very pleased with
the final results.

So...what IS on my needles today?

I am in the process of binding off a FUSION scarf in
shades of teal.
I plan to make a slouchy hat to match.

Happy knitting!

On My Needles Today...

I am continuing on with my
Fusion jacket.
The back is done!

I am presently working on one
of the fronts.

This is my beginning yarn inspiration.
The sleeves will be knitted with it.

Happy knitting this week!

My New "Knitting" Chair!

After waiting eight months for a
chair I had on order from Ballard,
I finally decided I could wait no longer
and cancelled the order.

Making the rounds of the local furniture stores
I found one that "spoke" to me!
I like the French script fabric.
It was comfortable,
which was the number one criteria since
my back likes to bother me.
(For someone who sits and knits
as much as I do, a chair with support
is essential.)
And the scale of the chair was right.

It was delivered the same afternoon I bought it.
(Ballard, I love your style,
but your customer service needs improvement.)

I now have a brand new "work station!"

The hidden bonus of this chair is that it's a
RECLINER!!!
I have never been a fan of recliners.
They always seemed too big
and too bulky.
If someone had ever told me I'd own one someday,
I would have said they were crazy!
Never say never...

Come sit awhile...

On My Needles Today...

...is a "bandanna" cowl.
It is shaped into a point at the center front,
giving it a bandanna look when worn.
I am knitting it with
Plymouth Yarn's GINA,
a wonderful space dyed wool.

Happy knitting!

Mother's Day

Being a mother is the hardest
job you will ever do.
It is the most demanding,
most self sacrificing
and least appreciated job on earth.

Being a mother is also the most fun,
rewarding, empowering, sharing,
fulfilling and joyful job you will ever do.

Motherhood is a time that goes by way too quickly,
but being a mother is a job that never ends.
Thank goodness.

Happy Mother's Day!

Accessory Bags!

It's been a week of sewing.
I've been making Accessory Bags.
As a result, my Etsy shop is well stocked with a variety!

The first step in this process is doing an over lock stitch
along the sides of the zipper edgings.
This helps prevent raveling of the fabric
edges and thus snagged zippers!

Next is the insertion of the zipper.

For a project like this,
I like to do several at once.

Combining the vinyl and the fabric
is almost the end.

I first made Accessory Bags
to stow all my small knitting tools.

And, they're great for that.
But since I seem to find bunches of
different ways to use them.

They are great for storing jewelry and…

…cosmetics too!
I also love them for travel.
Bet you can think of lots of ways
use them too!
